Best place to travel to in England?

My wife is originally from England, but now lives here with me in America. She wants to travel back there one day and show me where she grew up at. But, I also want to have all sorts of surprises lined up for us while we are there. What are some fun things to do in London and the surrounding area?

Travel Tips
The three best places not including London for historical and natural beauty would be in my opinion:

Cornwall (great beaches) in the south west
Lake district in the North West
Bath & the Cotswolds (again South West)

If you have time though I would definatly fit in a trip to Scotland You will regret it if you miss this out
