Torino vs Turin: Why the controversy? |
Travel Info Why wouldn't we call the city the same thing as the people who live there? (Torino) Do we think they don't know the name of their town? What's next, we change the name of Los Angeles to The Angels so we can all speak English? Travel Tips I also though it was VERY wrong to change a proper name, like people or countries' names but, being a Brazilian who has moved to Japan, now I can understand that we do this to help teaching geography. Just imagine having to use Japanese characters to teach the true names of Japanese cities. Here are some examples of how some proper names are written differently in three languages (English, Portuguese and Japanese): New York - Nova Iorque - Nyu Yoruku Japan - Jap茫o - Nippon (or Nihon) France - Fran莽a - Furansu Brazil - Brasil - Burajiru United States of America - Estados Unidos da Am茅rica - Amerika (and the list goes on and on) |
