What are some travel tips for going to Aruba? |
Travel Info What are some travel tips for going to Aruba? Travel Tips Save plenty of time for the beach. This is one of the island's best assets. Try at least one restaurant, such as Gasparito Restaurant & Art Gallery, which servs local Aruban cuisine. Snorkel Arashi or Malmok beaches. Do not worry about the weather it is almost always nearly perfect. Bring twice as much sunscreen as you think you may need. Do not forget to apply all over, even the tops of your feet and ears! The sun is strong and you can even burn in the shade (reflection from the sand) or on a cloudy day. Source(s): 12+ visits to the island. http://www.gasparito.com/content/section... Other Travel Tips Take island tours, other than shopping and beach time there isnt much to do there. All the shopping is in one location near the cruise ship port. Its not dangerous at all, it is nothing like the news stations make it to be after the kidknapping. Normally it is just as safe as America. As far as what to bring? Lots of t-shirts, shorts and bathing suits. You really don't need to "dress up" no matter where you go. Dresses/skirts for women and sports jackets for men are not required, and everyplace is casual and comfortable. You'll need plenty of sunscreen, no matter how well you tan. The sun in Aruba is HOT! As far as what to do? Plenty! Water sports, shopping, casinos, island tours, horseback riding, restaurants and, of course, the beautiful beaches! personal experience Don't be afraid of the drinking water. Aruba has the second largest desalination plant in the world and the water is very pure and safe. However, since the majority of the water pipes are only 6 inches underground, the heat of the sun keeps the cold water lukewarm. There are a lot of little lizards that like to congregate in walkways around the resorts, but they will quickly get out of the way. It's like dealing with squirrels in an American park. The larger iguanas tend to stay on rocks and ignore tourists. The peskiest critter on the island is a little bird called a sugar thief. They like to walk right up to your table and snatch bits of food or sugar packs or whatever. Downtown Orangestad is packed with touristy malls, but if you walk two blocks to the south, you'll find local stalls with the same merchandise for less. Most Aruban merchants accept US dollars and mark their prices in both Florins and Dollars. The exchange rate is about 2/1, but you should only need a minimal amount of Aruban money to pay for bus fare or local food in the outlying cities. There is great local place called lagrange.
