Is it hard becoming a German citizen if I'm already American? |
Travel Info I'm thinking about moving to Germany with my boyfriend who came here to America on a work Visa. He wants me to move with him and I'm jst weighing my options. Travel Tips Like your boyfriend you will need a visa in order to be able to move to Germany. It doesn't automatically entitle you to work in Germany. A special permit from the local department of labour (Arbeitsamt) for your profession is neccessary (and a new permit whenever you move). Marriage will certainly help. You can request citizenship anytime but I don't know about chances of being granted. When married you have the right of citizenship after 2-3 years, otherwise 8 years. I'm not a laywer. So I'll point to more official documents: http://www.handbuch-deutschland.de/index... "The Manual for Germany is intended for immigrants who are considering settling in Germany and who, before arriving or having just arrived, would like to find out about life in Germany." http://www.einbuergerung.de/ This page is in German only.
