We will be driving to Belgium fr UK for a week in Aug.?

Travel Info
We're hoping to stay in Self-catering apartment in Brugge and make that our base. Is it a good idea to drive to Luxembourg to visit for the day or is it too far or too much to see in one day? Is it advisable to drive in the first place or should we think of using some other form of transportation like train or tour bus to get to Luxembourg?

Travel Tips
I would suggest taking a train. It takes about 4 hours each direction with a change in Brussels. The trick is finding a schedule that works for you. You would want to get an early morning train and return later in the evening to make the most of your time in Luxembourg. You can refer to http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm... for rail schedules and information. I love taking trains in Europe as you can just sit back and watch the scenery, read a book or nap! Remember to take a picnic lunch and maybe a bottle of wine...

It looks like it only takes a little over 3 hours to drive there. Not bad! The one advantage of driving is flexibility and you can go off the beaten path and discover something different.

So, depends if you want some flexibility or if you want to relax on the train.

I visited Luxembourg in one day and I was fine with that. We just walked around the city and visited the old quarters and fortifications. It was okay - but I can't say I would return.

Have fun!

no idea
You can go by car, Belgium is very small so it will be about 150 km or so. You can also go by train, maybe it's easier to do, but you will have to change at Brussels probably

I'm living in Belgium next to Brugge and Luxembourg is about 350 km away. So if you want to get there and there are no traffic jams, you be there in 3 and a half - 4 hours. So I think that's quite far. Maybe you should go for 2 days and sleep in Luxembourg.
I have to say Brugge is a really nice city with some very nice medieval buildings like the Belfort and the churches. Good choice!
The distance from Bruges to Luxembourg is about 300 km. The hole distance is a highway. So if your drive at the maximum speed limit you need about 3 hours. And three hours back...
The train takes also 3 to 3 and a half hour, but it is more relaxed way..
