Travel Info Where's a nice place to live near the university of birmingham, uk.? Travel Tips Its all about your budget. Selly Oak around the university is full of cheap student accomodation, but it is a bit of a dump. Try and orientate yourself with a map of Birmingham. www.multimap.co.uk The University is on the Bristol Rd. The closer you get to the city on the Bristol Rd, the nicer properties get, but it gets more expensive. Edgbaston is a lovely leafy area, between the city and the university, but it can be expensive. Most of the universties own halls of residence are in Edgbaston. Closer to the city on Bristol Rd are the inner city regeneration developments of Brindley Place. These flats are surrounded by the bars and cafes of Broad Street and Brindley Place, but they are usually well out of range of student budgets. Moseley is as close as birmingham gets to a funky slightly hippy North london type feel, but personally I don't think it is as great as everyone living there likes to pretend. No direct transport links to the university. Kings Heath is a bit further out, not too far from the University and mostly home to young professionals with families. Others There isn't!! its not often you hear the words "Birmingham" & " nice" in one sentence! When I lived in Birmingham I lived in Harborne. It isn't the cheapest... Also if you don't mind the smell of chocolate you could try Bournville - its where one of the Cadbury factories is. Brum has changed a lot over the last 15 years - it&s a fantastic place to visit! I live about 30 mins away, and there are some lovely towns just outside, too - Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, etc. I have a friend who lives on a narrow boat right near the city centre! most people i know there live in selly oak University of Birmingham is UCE and it is spread over several sites. where are you going? My son is on Perry Barr Campus and there are loads of flats to rent around the Aston area. |
