Where can you buy good Baklava in Birmingham..? |
Travel Info I can't seem to find anywhere...Anybody have any suggestions..because I miss it! I know you can buy some that is wrapped in celophane in many of the small ethnic shops...but that isn't very nice.. And the ones in Selfridge aren't like the real thing either.. And the ones you buy at that small stand in the Bullring are OK.. but I know there is much better! Also anybody know any good Turkish deli's or supermarkets? Thankyou. Travel Tips I see that you like this particular sweet, so I decided to give you a site for recipes, so you can see how to prepare it yourself. It is not so difficult, believe me. Sorry, if it sounds a little off topic, the question was where to buy it, but it is worthy to know how to make it also,if you like it so much, and I had no other way to communicate it to you. And it does not cost many money or time to prepare it. http://www.gourmet.gr/search.asp?search=... Explore this site. There are also other Meditteranean recipes. I know that some years ago, you had a festival of Meditteranean cooking in Birmingham - UK, a "hymn" to the virtues of the Meditteranean cooking. Katerina Others If you're willing to wait a few weeks for it, Harry and David's gourmet foods website has AMAZING baklava. http://www.harryanddavid.com/webapp/wcs/... Our handcrafted 60-layer dessert 鈥?sheer ambrosia! This authentic Mediterranean dessert should cost a fortune 鈥?but doesn't. That's because we butter and layer all 60 paper-thin fillo pastry leaves by hand here in our own bakery. Filled with a rich mix of cinnamon and chopped walnuts, then smothered in honey with a squeeze of lemon. It just wouldn't taste as good made any other way. Crisp, flaky, and scored for easy slicing, it's the richest you'll taste anywhere. Arrives in a fancy gift box. Net wt. 1 lb. 8 oz. $25 plus shipping. Modified 11 months ago call the nearest Greek Orthodox church...the one here in Memphis has a GREEK FEST every year...you just missed it by a month...boy was the roast lamb, stuffed grape leaves and the baklava was great.. Greeks usually sell it as their national cake... funny, isn't it? Who would say that our baklava comes from Greece (or does it come from Greece at all?)? Here, in U.S., I have seen it a few times on Greek festivals. |
