Travel Tips
go on as many trips as you can afford , try to get a good member of staff to take you on a local trip ,i loved the place most of the negative answers you get on here are probably from Canadians , who expect 5star little America ffs its CUBA the most beautiful island in the Caribbean love it its great discover the place .Yes Varedero is a resort but the locals are friendly ,as for crime minimal but use common sense , have a great holiday , im really jealous .

I have never been to Cuba, but I was told that Varadero is the least interesting part to see: only private clubs; separated from the locas. YOU live in a closed space, no contact with the population, although the beaches are beautiful. Havana and Cienfuegos are 1.000 times better.
On Cuba you will feel like a Gods, because they like foreigners and they understand how important they are for their economics. Of course you will pleased with prices and enjoy their warm atmosphere, but of course you should care abour where your wallet and credit card is, and if you date with cubanitas, and they arent from city where you will stay, you should always pay for their entering in bars, cafes, discos and so on. Around $5.
But I am sure you will rest there a lot, because it is one of the best places where you can forget about politic, economic and so on stuff... mmm, i want there again
An ex of mine went there for a week. Varedero is just these resorts that foreigners are in. They didn't meet any locals who were not working for the resort.

That said, as a holiday, it was marvellous, but it could have been anywhere, there was nothing particularly Cuban about it.

For their second week they hired a car and the adventure began, as you do not pass someone in Cuba if you have a car - you offer them a lift. They loved the last week of the holiday, and met loads of fantastic people. Sure, there was a bit of a language barrier, but that's what travelling is about.
