Travel Info Is the Old Ship Hotel in Brighton nice? and how far is Brighton from central London? Travel Tips Brighton is a 50 minute journey by train (if you get the fast train) from Central London. The Old Ship Hotel is okay,not especially posh, but reasonable, very historical, some parts date back to 1500's. It's a three star and it's probably about standard for it's rating. The location is excellent, right on the seafront close to Brighton Pier, and round the corner from the Lanes. Others about 2 hours drive. it's OK ... not all that but it's about hour and a half drive from central london... Nice isn't a word I'd use. The rooms are very small and only a few are sea-facing, the one I stayed in was barely big enough for the double bed and was extremely hot. It's also in my opinion overpriced. I haven't stayed in many hotels in Brighton but the Queens Hotel is a much cheaper seafront hotel that recently had a refit and the Belgrave is about the same price as the Ship but with much nicer rooms - only disadvantage being it's at the bottom of West Street which is a big bar and club destination at the weekends (unless that's what you're after). If you've got cash to splash, try the much nicer Drakes, Pelirocco or Blanch House or the Hotel du Vin - all very individual hotels with great bars and top-class restaurants. Brighton to London is about an hour and trains run every 20-30 minutes. Return fare to London from Brighton with a travelcard for the Underground and buses is about 21 pounds. But you won't want to visit London anyway, Brighton's much nicer :-) I didn't go inside but it didn't look very appealing from the outside. The seafront hotels are usually more expensive and very old buildings that need a lot of renovation. There is a cheap Travelodge hotel on North street, just across from the shopping center and very close to the lanes, few minutes walk to the Pier and the beach. The rooms are big and clean and it's cheap (about 50 a night I think). It's absolutely fine. It was refurbished a couple of years ago so the standard of decoration is quite good. As previously stated though, small rooms at the top can be hot. It's in a good location, right on the seafront and close to The Lanes. Potentially it could be noisy due to traffic, but I think the rooms are double glazed - check when you book. To be honest for 拢15 you won't get a better deal, so unless you are loaded and can afford one of the boutique hotels I would stick with it. 8-) i worked there for 3 years(silver service/chef), about 10 years ago, you'll be fine, its a clean well run hotel with good standards |
