Driving from North America and South America?

Travel Tips
Yes, it can be done. Colombia would be tricky, but I know several people who have driven from Texas down to Panama, no problem. You would need to investigate guide books for each country and plan your route with care. And yes, Colombia could be tricky, although the rebels are only part of the problem, and you can plan around those areas. The road system in Colombia isn't too great. "Highways" tend to be pretty much one lane in each direction, with lots of cars, trucks, buses, etc. all passing one another with reckless abandon. It can take a very long time to cover a relatively short distance here. (It has taken me 10-12 hours to drive from Cucuta to Bogota (a distance of ~ 400 miles).

I also know people who have driven from Colombia to Patagonia, so, it can definitely be done. You'd probably want to take a 4x4 if you do make this trip.
