What is the status of Cancun after Hurricane Wilma? |
Travel Info I plan on taking a trip to Cancun with me and four of my buddies. Were getting back from Iraq and want to take some R & R time down there. I have heard that Hurricane Wilma has demolished the place, I've heard rumors that all attractions are closed, or most are. Most hotels are closed. I even heard the beaches were bare with the hurricane blowing most of the sand away and just leaving rocks. If you could help me out I would be so appreciative. Thank you again. Travel Tips I just got back on January 6th. Only 30% of hotels are up and running. I stayed at thr Riu Cancun. It was a beautiful hotel. There are only 4 clubs open - Dady-O's, Daddy Rocks, Congo & Corona Bar. It was still a very good time. The beaches are smaller but there is sand on them. Most of the activities and sights along with the shopping and flea markets are open. It was about 85 and sunny every day I was there. I saw signs on most of the hotels saying they are expecting to be open around March 2006. I've been to Cancun 2 previous times and enjoyed this trip just as much as the last 2. Others Half thre hotels will be operational by Dec 15th. However beaches are just rocks The Riviera Maya is amuch better choice at this point. |
