I lived in Cardiff for two years, and I think the nightlife is awesome. There are so many bars to choose from ranging from the 'old man pubs' to the bars with dance floors. There are AT LEAST four proper dance nightclubs (theres even a "cheese" nightclub where all they play is 70, 80's and 90's stuff). And most of the nightclubs are on the main street in the center of town which makes it very easy to find. You should also check out Bar Cuba, if you are into salsa; they have a certain night where an instructor comes in and you can learn to salsa, drink, and be merry:). If your into the more alternative clubs that play metal, ska and, well alternative music, Metros is a good place, or for live bands, theres a bar thats close to our American Barfly clubs, which is right next to the castle.
As far as cultural events go: there are always theatrical plays that the University puts on for the public, or Rugby and football matches at Cardiff stadium. And if you happen to be in Cardiff around Christmas they set up what is called "Winter Wonderland" in front of the museum, where you can ice-skate, and go on little minitiare carnival rides.
