Pls give me some more info on Wales. I'd like to visit the country sometime. People, weather, English accent? |
Travel Info etc. etc. I'd like to especially know how the people are as it is the people of a country who usually make a country what it is etc. Are they friendly? Travel Tips My husband is Welsh and I am Canadian. I have been to Wales at least 8 times now. I love it. The people are incredible. They are so friendly. Wales has such a calming feeling to it. You get off the plane take a breath of fresh air and relax right away. One mistake you never make is referring to them as English. Wales is a country of its own. It has its own history and its own language. I don't think you can go wrong traveling to Wales. I'm sure you will love it as much as I do. Just make sure to go to the smaller areas and not just Cardiff. PorthCawl, Llanwit Major, Barry Island just a few places I have been and really loved. Others Welsh accent, surely? Wales is an exceptionally beautiful country, with a relatively mild climate although it does have a high annual rainfall average. In my experience the Welsh are a very friendly group of people, especially if you wear a woolly jumper! ;-) They don't have an English accent as they are Welsh, not English. While Wales, like England, is part of the UK, it is a separate country from England. Most people in Wales speak Welsh and English. In the more rural areas, Welsh is more commonly spoken on the street (as a matter of national pride) but I understand that in the city areas, like in Cardiff, English is used more widely. The Welsh accent is quite funny and, even though they are speaking English, it sounds like they are speaking a different language. One of the nicest places to visit in Wales is Snowdonia National Park in the north of Wales. It has some amazing scenery with beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains etc and also has Wales' tallest mountain, Mount Snowdon. While you can go up and down the mountain by train, to really see it's beauty, walking is the much better way to get to the summit. Llanberis and Betws-y-Coed are nice sleepy little towns to stay in Snowdonia. Some other places in north Wales that are worth a visit are Portmeirion (a utopian model village on the coast), Caernarfon (which has a great castle that you can clamber around) and Llandudno (with an elegant Georgian seaside and a very tacky Brighton-style pier). Weather wise it is quite a rainy place and is fairly cool. The locals are fairly friendly - not the nicest locals I've come across but certainly not the worst. I' am an American whom married a Welshman, and I lived in the UK( not Wales but England) for nearly 5 years. I have to say Wales is so beautiful, and the Welsh are very friendly. ( North Wales is a bit more reserved though, but still kind hearted) Good choice in places to visit, I recommend visiting Coastal town in the South and West Wales. Oh... the Welsh have there own Celtic language and they have a very distinct proper Welsh accent. So they do speak English but not with an England accent, a nice Welsh one. Take Care They Have Some Nice Informative Wales Websites. Just Go to Any Search Engine |
