Travel Tips Glen Ellyn is my personal favorite, though I lived in Wheaton for 6 years... cute shops, theater, good dining, one of the most chill starbucks in the nation, fabulous library, and easy access to other important things (shopping, the city, metra). there's also great town things, like carnivals, "taste of glen ellyn" and my personal favorite, trash day. once a year, the trash collectors will pick up ANYTHING for FREE so people take the opportunity to get rid of lots of great (large) stuff: bookcases, end tables, couches... it's a beautiful day. if you know it's coming, you drive around the night before looking for the good stuff. Others Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire and Barrington to name a few. Add to the list any of the 'burbs on the North Shore from Wilmette up to Lake Bluff. Plus the 2nd tier in from the lake - Skokie, Morton Grove, Glenview, Northbrook, Deerfield, etc. ..., Lisle, Wheaton, Oswego, ... Come on! Go to the south/west side. Go to Downtown Naperville, La Grange, Downers Grove, even Berwyn. A lot of different answers for this question! Generally the South side of the city is the least favorable. Many of the western suburbs are great places which attract middle class to upper class families. Another great benefit of the western burbs is that the city is easily accessible by the METRA which has stations in Elgin, Geneva and Aurora. St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia are well developed communities with excellent school systems and low crime rates. If you are looking for a little cheaper start check out Yourkville and Oswego. They are developing rapidly and are just on the outskirts of developed cities. Also try this site: www.city-data.com.
