How well will my TEXMEX be understood in Spain? |
Travel Info I was raised and live on the Texas US/Mexico border and also lived in Maracay Venezuela for some time. I found that much of my TEXMEX language was not understood in Venezuela and have been told that the Language spoken in much of Spain is not understood by the Mexicans. How much trouble am I going to have communicating with the local populace. I am fluent in TEXAN which most Americans don't understand either. Travel Tips If you learned Spanglish growing up, you will have certain words that you use that won't be understood in Spain, but luckily, the Spanish are so encouraging when you try to speak the language, they will sit there and try to understand what you are saying. Every now and then you will meet a snob (as you would in any country) but for the most part, you will not have a problem. Gestures, a smile and enthusiasm for communicating go a long way. I have lived in Spain, been married to a Spaniard for 20 years and travel there every summer. Even when my parents (who know very little Spanish) traveled with us there last year, they were treated warmly and people understood because they wanted to understand. Their accents and pronunciation were much worse than yours, I am quite sure. Hey, don't worry. You will do fine and have lots of fun! Enjoy! |
