Nondrinker in Ireland- how to decline a drink? |
Travel Info I don't drink at all, and I am wondering if I will be looked on as rude or unsocial if I decline the offer of a pint in a pub or of a glass of wine at my hotel/b and b. How do I decline without seeming unfriendly? Travel Tips To the Irish, you are rude if you refuse the drink. That is that. It is unfortunate, but true. Be as polite as possible, but they will be offended. I have heard them say more than once" Who the f*ck does s/he think s/he is. Too good to take a drink when it's offered." best of luck to you. Source(s): Personal experience. Other Travel Tips Say, " No thanks...I am allergic!" This is what I say b/c I really am! Just smile and say, "No thank you, I do not drink." That is not being rude at all. If someone keeps pushing after you politely refuse, then they are the one that is being rude. "That is very kind of you, I'd love an apple juice, glass of soda, etc. if you don't mind." You accept the drink, and let them know what your preference is. Pick something of equal or lesser cost compared to what has been offered. It is not rude, because most people want to be hospitable, not get you drunk. |
