Does anyone else NOT like going on cruises?

Travel Info
Everyone I know thinks cruises are so fun and like to go a lot. I, on the other hand, did NOT enjoy my cruise experience. To me, it was like being stuck in a nice hotel for seven days! BORING!

Travel Tips
Every person is going to be different. It also depends on the cruise line and boat you took. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Carnival.

Cruising is really for two types of travelers. One, the kind of traveler that just wants to relax. A real vacation where you aren't constantly, you get pampered, good food, and just pure relaxation the whole time, with the option of going to a new destination, or just staying on the ship. And/or the traveler that wants to visit a destination before planning a trip. One day at port to a destination on a cruise can really be helpful in planning your trip, that way, you know what you are getting into and where you will be staying, etc.

I think the fact that you were sick may have put a damper on your experience as well. Any vacation you take where you don't feel good isn't going to be fun.

If you are an active person and want to be out doing things all the time, cruising likely isn't for you. But it's really intended to be an upper-class environment, with fine dining and a relaxing environment for people that want it. It's definitely not for everyone, but it does have it's place for certain travelers.

Personally, I love cruises. I've taken friends on cruises who loved it so much that's all they talked about for months. I've also had friends that just don't like it.

The cruise industry is really changing though, there is going to be a lot more to do onboard than ever before as the boats continue to change.

ME TOO!! We took a cruise for our honeymoon, and I couldn't wait to get the hell off! I felt so cooped up, and had to walk a mile just to get to dinner. I never want to feel so stranded ever again.
I have sent people on cruises that have felt the same way. The over active people think it is a bit too confining.

If you know what to expect, and plan as much on shore activity as possible, and insure you are doing an itinerary you enjoy, it should be a better experience.

Example...Europe for sightseeing.
i heard people get sick on cruises as well b/c all the air is being recirculated.
AGree and too structured AND we like to do our own thing....
Sounds like you went on a cheap one.

My ships have always stopped in at least 5 different ports in 7 days.
I think cruises have their place if you want to relax and eat tons of great food until you burst. They also are a good way to see some places like the Med, Alaska, and parts of the Caribbean. But they certainly aren't for everyone, especially really active people and those who crave high adventure. They also don't have that sense of unexpectedness and adventure that comes with going out on your own and doing your own thing when you travel.
