I am cuban and lived in Habana
I would avoid the Hotel Nacional, it is overpriced and the rooms are a bit grimy. Though, definately visit this hotel for a drink on their patio and to take in the view.

The Melia has two nice hotels, one in Vedado, one in Miramar.

The Hotel Florida is also nice, is in the heart of old Havana, and has a great little bar downstairs.
