How much should I tip people in Cuba? |
Travel Info I'm going to Cuba next year and it's all inclusive. I've heard it's customary to tip though, as they earn next nothing, and you get a better service. How much should i top waiters, hotel staff etc... Travel Tips We were in Cayo Coco earlier this year and when we tipped it was one peso, that's what was recommended to us by our rep, the staff are fantastic and do not expect you to tip them at every drop, we tipped a waiter who was fantastic to us and went out of his way to do things to make our holiday even better, the guy down the beach who saved us a sun lounger everyday got a tip off us too, the porter who took us to and from our accommodation got a tip, but honestly they don't all expect it, they love it if you give them writing books, pens, toothpaste and toothbrushes, umbrellas, Tampax, toiletries and suncream, they will be happy with any bits and bats you don't want to take home with you, anything to do with English football goes down great with them, honestly just one pesos when you feel you have had good service will suffice, the Cubans are fantastic people. Others From what my brother-in-law tells me, they prefer material goods - hand soap, pencils and pens, stuff like that. Anything basic that isn't too bulky, so you can bring it in your luggage. Aside from that, 1-2 dollars a day for your housekeeper and a fiver (or a tenner) for the waiter and bartender would be well received. nothing-once they know you have money to burn-you'll get robbed at the very least they'll all be related and pass the word around --you'll be inundated with scammers/beggars---KEEP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS Central / South America expect around 10% Have travelled more than 3 million miles in the past 11 years - Made 21 trips to Central / South America one of those years... A dollar is always appreciated, as are small gifts as cosmetics, sweets, etc., although it's not compulsory and you won't get bad service if you don't tip. They'll love you if you do though. Have a great time there! I'm sure you'll love it all - the nature and the people and the weather... i went to 2 differnt alll exculvise and i tipped nothing to nobody and i didnt see anyone else tip , |
