Cuba - when, where, what to do and how much?

Travel Info
Basically, i want to take a trip to Cuba and I'm thinking late January. Is this a good time for hot temperatures? I want a mixture of culture and relaxation so I want to spend half my time in Havana (for the culture and history etc) and the remainder of my trip in varadero (for the beaches and relaxation time etc). Is this a good strategy and finally how much do you think all this will cost?

Travel Tips
January will be good weather, not the hottest but well into the high twenties! U have a good strategy and Varadero is gorgeous but very touristy. I would recommend travelling south to Trinidad-not the island-its a town in cuba with a beautiful beach 20 mins drive away. Varadero has good clubs but the locals dont get involved here-i would say 3 days sitting and doing nothing on a beach is enough!

Generally cuba is cheap. You can have a slap up meal, such as steak with a sea food starter and a couple of beers for about 拢10. There are obviously more expensive restaurants but generally the food is the same.

I would also recommend staying at a 'CASA' for part of your trip. This is where the locals put you up in their spare room. It is actually very nice, guranteed cleanliness and good service. You also get to see real cuban life. If there are any youngsters in the family they will be willing to take you to a good restaurant/bar/club......all the people are very friendly and have a keen interest in foreigners.

When in Havanna, be weary of the Jinetero's or hustlers. They are not crooked as such and will not rob you but will try and get you to commit to trips, dinners etc...for an expensive price. Taxi's are a good way to get about, in Havanna particularly but walking is a good option as you are likely to meet some amazing people!

Another city worth a visit is Santiago de Cuba. This is the spiritual hub of Cuba and has the best night life. The clubs always come with a show, so its sort of a sit down event where you get table service and the crowds join in the dancing late late late into the early hours. The most popular music is Reggaetone which is like a carnival type of street reggae with a twist of salsa.

January is a great time to go. I don't know how much it will all cost---it depends on a lot of factors---quality of food and accommodations, etc.
Use their hospitals - far better than our NHS!
if you enquiring about the cost you cant afford it (only kidding) go its not too dear but enough and be careful where you put your head down i notice you said you weren't worried well this time be careful
Been to Varadero five times. The days are short in january. I usually go in spring or fall. Anyways book through a travel agency. You will enjoy it. Cuba is great.
Its hot all year round. Aprils a good time to go but January's fine too. Sounds like a god plan to do a half n half.
I went last april all inclusive for a week and the whoe trip came to about a grand (including vaccinations, visa, trips and spends).

In Varadero I really reccommend doing a catamaran trip - snorkelling and swimming with dolphins for about 40 quid pp.
