I was accepted into a program from DC. I have been to Cuba two times before, but never actually went for the medicine program. I could not commit seven years of my life living in Cuba, especially with all the uncertainty now surrounding it. I hear now you only have to commit six years for schooling but you still have to stay and practice medicine in Cuba for at least a year. The schooling you will receive will be the best! I have visited many schools and although supplies and instruments are basic and somewhat outdated compared to the US, the healthcare system in Cuba is the best I've seen. Jamaica is a close second as both countries have such a strong and dedicated focus on preventative medicine.

Cuba is a beautiful country with some of the most genuine people you will ever meet. It has its challenges. Your diet will drastically change, you will still eat healthy, there just wont be as many food options as your used to, sounds are limited, when I last went, 2001, I was really into reggaeton, couldnt hear a lick (music is a biggie for me so....) but plenty of good live music, internet is gonna be hard to come by, housing will be sanitary, but basic...basically think of it as living in the country....there is way to much to tell but do your research, living in Cuba is not for all, I have relatives who live in ghettos in Jamaica, have visited Cuba and prefer staying in the ghetto! If possible try to at least visit first or visit someplace similar in standards and way of life to see if its really your cup of tea. Good luck! Im not part of this religious affiliation per se, but you will find many programs at least based in the US are sponsored by religous groups.
