Whilst you are there buy a car...eg a Kombi or something.Theres plenty of travellers buying and selling vehicles in Cairns as it's international airport is a great gateway for overseas travelers. we bought a kombi for $1000 and sold it afer our trip for $1100. This might not be an option if you are alone, but saying that you get to go where you like when you like.
