Travel Info I am going to India next month. What type of small gift can I take to give to relatives (kids & adults)? Travel Tips I've found chocolates, cosmetics and novelty items to be the only thing you get cheap in the US & Europe, but not in India. For example, I've taken rechargeable LED torches (the ones that you shake to recharge), huge bottles of Vaseline body lotion, and chocolate covered strawberries for my folks. Toys, too (another poster mentioned remote controlled cars), if they're 'interesting' enough, would make a good gift. Don't make the mistake of taking any electronics (digicams, mobile phones, DVDs, suchlike) unless specially requested. All that stuff is way cheaper in India. Plus most American appliances won't work with Indian voltages. Check out India-centric shopping sites like rediff.com and indiatimes.com to get an idea of what things are available there. Others take like remote control car toys or some cool toy they dont have there also depends where in india(the city or the village) A book on Human Rights is what they definitely need. they have everything there. whatever u want to take is probabbly made there. take some of your favourite sweets and chips etc Indians would love most quality western products. I might suggest providing your relatives with a digital camera and ask them to use it to send you photos each holiday season - a way to keep in touch - all of my Indian friends have e-mail - but very few have digital cameras - they would certainly know what to do with one, just don't have ready access to them. It really depends on the wealth of your relatives. If they are average Indian's - they work a week for less than $5 - Seriously - $5, $10, or $20 bills in envelopes are well received.
