You can stay in hostels, too, which is a really cheap alternative to a hotel. OR..when my father was in the military stationed in Germany, some of his friends would ride the trains at night and sleep on them. In the mornings, they would shower at the train station (they have public showers), do their sightseeing and then get back on the train at night. There are sorts of cheaper ways to see Europe. It's so worth it!! The time I've spent in Europe was the best time I've ever had. Have fun!! Nothing is cheap in Europe since the euro was introduced.
