What does the World realy think of the Motor City, Detriot, now? |
Travel Info What does the World realy think of the Motor City, Detriot, now? Travel Tips I was born there in 1961. Back then it had a character much different than today. I have not been back in 10 years but when I heard the current mayor speaking about tearing down derelict buildings, 5000 in 4 years, I applauded him. Unfortunately, he has only torn down 1000 of them. A gentleman commented that instead of a neighborhood filled with nice, well kept houses, he has many empty lots with deer, raccoon and opossums keeping him company. Actually, I think he is better off. Detroit, my birth place, would I live there today? No. Absolutely not. The place is ruined and needs MAJOR help. Others I'm not a Detroiter, but I have tremendous respect for the Motor City. It has a fantastic history--and certainly has contributed much to the US & the World. Great entertainers, entertainment, industries & social change movements. I don't believe that we should abandon such great cities--and instead, we should work to restore & improve places like Detroit. I live in a close suburb of Detroit, and current Mayor Kilpatrick is not that good of a mayor. The Super Bowl, the development of the riverfront, the development of new downtown housing, and all the road constructions were put into place by former mayor Dennis Archer. Kilpatrick has not done much for the city except take some old buildings down. Archer tried bringing in the suburbs help, but Kilpatrick turned down the suburbs which has not helped the city. Also, Archer got businesses to come back to Detroit, like CompuWare. Most of the good things that has happened to the city were because of Archer, not Kilpatrick. And if anyone paid attention to Kilpatricks first term, it was just one scandal after another. Detroit has improved over the last few years, and I can always say we're nice to visitors. What Kilpatrick needs to focus on is the neighborhoods and keeping the International Auto Show in Detroit by getting a bigger facility for it. The NAIAS has outgrown Cobo. Detroit sucks, Its suburbs suck, its people suck, you don't wanna live there. Whether its racist white people, snobs, wiggers, yuppies and irresponsible black people, Detroiters are terrible people. I mean this in all seriousness, I am not being biased. You can find better, more normal places to live. |
