What is the best resort in dominican republic?

Travel Info
I have never visited D.R., so where is the best spot for someone to enjoy a great beach, luxury accomodations, spa treatments, etc.

Travel Tips
Fun Tropicale - Located in the Playa Dorada complex, the hotel resides next to its sister property Fun Royale.

Other Travel Tips
We went as a group of 4 to the Fun Royale and Fun Tropicale resort, as part of the Playa Dorada complex in Puerto Plata, Dominican last April. We loved it so much, we're going back as a group of 16 this time! The beach is pretty good and the accomodations we really enjoyed. If you are looking for 5-star luxury, spa treatments etc. you may want to look into the resorts in Punta Cana which are a bit pricier but higher-end. Ourselves we wanted a more laid back, fun atmosphere and we got exactly what we wanted!
Personal experience
I'm from the Dominican Republic. We have good resorts in Punta Cana, B谩varo, Cabarete, Playa Dorada, Guayacanes (Juan Dolio), Saman谩 and many, many more. All of them have all types of hotels and very nice people.

If you want the ultimate clubbing experience during the nights, then Cabarete's atmosphere is the best, followed by Juan Dolio, which is relatively near Santo Domingo City (our capital).

If you plan on spending 1 week or less, then my advice is you try one or two places. But if you're coming for 2 or 3 weeks, or longer, then spend your weekends on beach resorts (so that there will be more Dominicans in them) and your weekdays visiting the inlands, enjoy the countryside and mountains, national parks and small towns.

This way you won't get sick of the "beachy" landscape and you will meet far more people and will get to know the country better.

If you come in February, you could drop by La Vega to enjoy the carnival (Carnaval Vegano). It's actually nationwide, but La Vega's is the best.

I personally liked the Princess resorts. There are a lot of the Princess hotels in the same area in Bavaro, all with different number of stars. Staying in Bavaro was great, because you can visit all the different Princess resorts, and there is a golf course and a casino. We were also able to go horseback riding in a different area, but there are many other activities, too.
The Hilton Hamaca Coral in Dominican Republic is the nicest resort I have been to in the Carribbean. I have stayed in resorts all over Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, St Thomas, and Puerto Rico but none of them beats the Hamaca Coral in the Dominican Republic.
