Travel Tips You CAN travel to the Dominican Republic from the U.S. without a passport, but not for long. The new legislation that makes it a requirement to have a Passport to get back to the U. S. comes into effect on Dec. 31, 2006 at 11:59 p.m. Even though you can, it is highly recommended that you have a passport in order to get out of the Dominican Republic.
