Do I need a passport to travel to the Domincan Republic if I'm going in Dec' 06? |
Travel Info I'm hearing two different stories and I'm not sure exactly which source I should turn to to find out and I would like to have plenty of time to get one incase I need it. Travel Tips Dominican Republic Customs Dominican Republic Customs and regulations states that travelers to the Dominican Republic are always reguired to show a visa or a tourist card. To enter the Dominican Republic you also need an official Photo ID, such as a current valid Passport or a current drivers license. Dominican Visa Section-Consulate Telephone Number 809-535-6820 ext.238. For more information visit: http://www.welcome-dominican-republic.co... Specific page: http://www.welcome-dominican-republic.co... They have a very organized Embassy and Consulate page with excellent contact information. Others as long as return before Dec. 31, 2006, you will not be required to have a passport - US citizens can use a government issued photo ID and birth certificate in lieu of a passport until then - after 12/31 all US citizens will need a passport - THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME TO GET A PASSPORT, WHY NOT DO IT NOW? I would get one, do it now while you have lots of time. Most people get them closer to winter. I would get one. It's not required yet, but I am a Canadian and have a passport - my friends do not..When we travelled together last year to DR I went through customs a lot faster than they did. Good site for passport/visa questions: travel.state.gov Yes you need one. As far as I know, you need to have a passport to travel anywhere outside the United States. You get your application from the Post Office and it takes 4-6 weeks to get. When I sent for mine, I think it was about $90.00. That was a few years ago. The postal clerk can tell you everything you need to do. If you happen to live in the DC area you can get one done in person and very quickly! |
