Know anything about volunteering in the galapagos islands? |
Travel Info I would really like to see the galapagos islands. But I don't want want to spend loads of money just for a 10 day tour. I'd like to live there for minimum a month but longer would be great. Please let me know if you know of any volunteer companies that offer something like this in the galapagos islands. Travel Tips Over the summer I spent 2 months volunteering with a program called ELI in Ecuador that places people on the Galapagos islands. You're able to stay as long as you would like (I believe the program fee per day was $10, with a $800 placement fee, excluding airfare). You'll have a host family, all meals, but you're required to pay the $100 national park entrance fee. If you do a search for international internships in Ecuador they'll probably be more organizations that work directly with the Galapagos and might find a better deal. Ecuador is an amazing country, hope you get to see it! Others The Galapagos are part of Ecuador, which is a poor country, and most work there is done by locals. But a friend of mine, a Kiwi, has recently been working for a helicopter firm there, snuffing goats, as part of a programme funded by the United Nations to reduce environmental damage there. You could try googling it. |
