Travel Info Please have anybody visit GALAPAGOS ISLANDS? Travel Tips I had several friends visit over the summer and they said it was one of the most amazing things. The big island (the one you will arrive at from a ship/plane) is the main hub where you can catch boat taxis to the other islands. Each island hosts a little different type of habitat with different types of animals (seals, blue footed boobies, tortoises, etc) so it depends on what you want to see. You can take cruises lasting from 4-11+ days (these vary widely in price, the cheapest roundtrip from Quito is around $800 and go up to several thousand for luxury cruises). You can elect to stay in really nice hotels-my friends stayed in the mangroves but this is pretty expensive. I believe there are a few hostels that charge $7-10/night (these do not usually require reservations). You will save money by planning you're own events and finding activities once you get there but it requires some time so you may want to opt for a planned tour (many of the hotels on the islands offer tours with rooms).
