Looking for traditional Irish music, especially ulean pipes in the pubs of Galway, Dublin and Killarney? |
Travel Info My wife and I will be in Ireland mid-march and our trip won't be complete unless we send our nights listening to Irish/Celtic music in the evenings. We especially like bagpipes and fiddles. I realize the scene is probaly different every night but if anyone knows where ours best chances are to find it, we aren't opposed to popping in and out of several places to find something good. Travel Tips When in Dublin , head to Temple bar or 'O Shea's Merchant', it's on the quays in Dublin City, any taxi driver will be able to take you there, they have a traditional Irish music session on Wednesdays with Irish dancing, any pub with Irish music in Dublin will have it advertised outside the door, In Galway or Killarney you will have a huge choice, Irish music is standard in the pubs outside Dublin. Enjoy your trip. Source(s): Ask this question on www.virtualtourist.com, there will be loads of Irish willing to help you out Other Travel Tips You will have a great time! The web offers hundreds of Irish music sites and most of them are what the Irish would call, you should pardon the expression, "shite". Your best bet is to ignore the web, stay at Eliza Lodge and wander the streets of Temple Bar any night of the week with your ear cocked for the unmistakable sounds of music - Irish. There's always a session (link) or three on tap as well as a Pint. But, till you can arrange your visit, here are some worthwhile web resources. Comhaltas Ceolt贸ir铆 脡ireann The National Organisation for Irish Traditional Music and Musicians has a site that doesn't do justice to the organisation. There are hundreds of Comhaltas groups scattered throughout Ireland and if you're into traditional music, you're likely to end up a member. This is the voluntary group that gave rebirth to Irish traditional music following Irish independence in the 1920's and 1930's. Stronger than ever, Comhaltas ( pronounced Colt-us) has put up a site with some information about the organisation. Better, there are schedules of local comhaltas shows and overseas tours. http://www.dublinlodge.com/irishmusic/ir... http://www.dublinlodge.com/irishmusic/ir... |
