Do you know something about Ukraine? |
Travel Info it's country Travel Tips Though my wife is american, as was her dad, her mom's side of the family comes from the Ukraine. My wife is knock down gorgeous, an affliction I hear a lot of Ukranians have. Start with the important stuff, food: They make an excellent baked potato salad. I've included a pointer to the recipe and one for their food in general. The women there are very traditional, family values are stressed, much like we used to be in the 50s before the baby boomer kids came along. This is why Ukrainian women are highly sought after for brides to come back to the USA. If you don't believe me I've included a search link below. Lastly I've included the CIA Fact Book link on the Ukraine. Which includes everything you'd ever want to know about the country from natural resources to HIV rates and National Holidays. Other Travel Tips Ukraine Republic in southeastern Europe, bordered by Belarus to the north; Russia to the northeast and east; the Black Sea to the south; Moldova, Romania, and Hungary to the southwest; and Slovakia and Poland to the west; includes the peninsula of Crimea. Kiev is the capital and largest city. Of the former Soviet republics, it is second to Russia in population. Ukraine came under a succession of invaders and foreign rulers, including central Asian tribes, the Mongols, Lithuania, the Ottoman Empire, Poland, and finally Russia. Under oppressive Polish and Russian rule in the seventeenth century, Ukrainian fugitives, known as Cossacks, organized resistance movements. A nationalist and cultural revival in the nineteenth century was rewarded after World War I by independence, which was, however, short-lived. Invaded by Russian troops, Ukraine became one of the original Soviet republics in 1922. Ukraine was traditionally home to a large Jewish population. Many Jews left Ukraine under oppressive conditions in the nineteenth century, and thousands more were exterminated by the Nazis in World War II. http://www.answers.com/topic/ukraine?met... |
