In France, can you learn Occitan, Basque, Breton, Alsatian or other local languages in school? |
Travel Info 1. Can you learn them as a second language in the Public School system? 2. Can they be used as the main medium for teaching in the Public School system (I mean, for mathematics, etc.) Travel Tips I just know that : in Brittany/Bretagne/Breizh where i live it exist "l'茅cole Diwann",Diwann School which is a private school wher the Breton study all what we can study in france but the class take place in Breton... Others I've never even heard of ANY of those languages to begin with. lol so i have no idea. sorry hun. but i would assume so.?? 1. yes, you can learn these languages in public school system. But I think that it is only as a third langage, not a second one. 2. No, you can't learn mathematics, history or biology in basque, breton or alsacian in the public school system. 1. Yes, but only (or mostly) in the regions, where these languages are local. For example, you'll have trouble finding them offered at schools in Ile-de-France. 2. I didn't hear about it (I lived in IDF), but even if it's not the case now, this might change in the future. Look at what progress Breton has made in the last 20 years! |
