We are going to Paris for just 3 days. Is it worth it to take a side trip to Giverny? |
Travel Info We have very limited time in Paris and I am not sure that it is worth it to See Monet's Garden. What do you see there or is it just another garden? Travel Tips Most of the main tourist attractions in Paris will take you those 3 days... The gardens in Giverny are exceptionally beautiful in the spring/summer months and would be worth it for those of us who are Monet afficinados or keen gardeners but you'll lose 1/2 a day... Source(s): I live in Paris & have had lots of friends visit Other Travel Tips Gardens at Versaille are beautiful too. 3 days in Paris? It's takes almost 3 days just to see the Lourve properly...! You need more time, Three days isn't enough even for Paris. You should try to get at least two weeks, then you will be able to visit all the great attractions. The Giverny gardens, ponds, and woods is an enchanted serene adventure. I was there three years ago, first I went inside the house to see Monet's artifacts, including his collection of Japaneses art. Then strolled the beautifully laid out garden where we spent many hours painting his lillypads, and other scenese in the huge garden. It's close enough to Paris to make the visit as an afternoon trip. Actually it's in the Normandy region, but right next door to Paris. Also if you take a certain route there, you will see bridges, rivers, and sailboats, made famous by the impressionist painters. That depends on your priorities! If you love Monet, it is worth the trip (and the weather!). The gardens are beautiful on a nice day, and if you are a fan of Monet's Waterlilies, it is fun to see the source of his inspiration. Check out www.sncf.fr to find out about trains. To get to Giverny, you need to go to Vernon, and catch the bus or take a cab from there. It will take the better part of the day to take this side trip. If you love Monet and decide that it is takes too much time to leave Paris, check out the Musee Marmotton, a museum that is smaller and less crowded than the huge Musee d'Orsay but that contains a fantastic collection of Monet.
