even if you only go on a day shopping trip to France you cannot bring raw meat back into the UK. You can only bring it in if you use a licensed importer. It is the same for the other way round, the French are also much stricter and jail is a possibility.

I have brought english bacon from London to Paris and noone has said anything. I don't know however if there are certain limits and rules that my two packs of bacon did not fall into?

not officially I came back from France 2 days ago every car was being searched. A large sign was warning you not to bring chickens, eggs, feathers etc
