What percent of France is of non-European origin? As in African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Moroccan?

Travel Info
I understand that France does not ask for ethnicity on the census. But is there anyone who can give me an estimate? In my French book, France looks like its 50 percent African.

Travel Tips
About 10% of the population is of non-European origin with the majority from the former North African colonies of France.

Others
I think 11 % is the muslim population of France (that's an estimate as there are illegal immigrants) Of course, that only half answers your question...
50% in you french book ? which book is it ?!!

There are no statistics, and it is hard to define what is "European". Most of the people who are categorized as "black" are born in Europe of French nationality, so they are Europeans.
The so-called "white" people are not necesserally of European origins, most north African are considered white.
Also, as a lot of other places in Europe, France has recieved since 1500 years migrations from central asia, gipsies, hebrew, etc..

Anotjer point is that a lot of people have one "white" parent and another "black". so how to consider these persons ? are they of European origins or not ?

So, it is very difficult to count. to my opinion the people with "visible" north African or African features in the parisian area it may be around 20-30%, maybe more depending of the criterium.
In the whole of France is would be much lower, around 10-15% I think.
