Studying abroad in Europe?

I am looking to study abroad in Europe.. I want to be near the meditteranean coast. I was looking at Barcelona, Cannes, Nice, and Rome.. I really like Nice, France but I am looking for outside input on what places are the nicest/safest and the most friendly.

Travel Tips

I'm living in Montpellier in France near from the Mediterranean sea. It is a very nice town (about 300000 people). I never had a problem of security but I think there is no "safe" place near this sea. In Montpellier, you have 50% of young people (below 25 year old) and there are a lot of friendly night clud, bar and pub.
Moreover, you have 3 big university and you can study anything you want.
I think Nice or Cannes is not a good place to live, there are a lot of old people .
