Hows to pronunce this..SANS RIVAL..i think this is french?

Travel Tips
Pronouciation is:

Sahn Ree-vahl

There is no "s" sound at the end of Sans.

Others
s-ah-ns riv (as in river) al (rhymes with all)

s-ah-ns riv-al is french and means "no rival" or "without peer" or "best."
Dear Madame,

This is in fact a French Phrase. It means, "I surrender." I cannot explain how to pronounce these words via typing, but I want to mention that you are very, very stupid person for asking for a freaking pronunciation via internet. Especially from such a vast, diverse community, whom I'm certain made it incredibly clear that they are fluent in French.

HOWEVER, I'm feeling rather nice, so I shall attempt to actually answer your question:

SAUNS REE-VAL.

Wow. I feel like a moron.
saw -ns re-voll
Pianoguy05 is all wet! It's FrogDog who has it right, at least as far as the meaning of "sans rival" is concerned: unrivalled, peerless, unique. (French synonyms might be "in茅galable, incomparable.")

However, both Pianoguy05 and FrogDog have the pronunciation wrong, as does Candace. For one thing, the final S in SANS is silent.

Here's my advice.

1. Access the 'How To Pronounce French' Website (see Sources below).

2. Scroll down the list of Simple Vowels to the [茫] sound, next to the words "an (year), banc (bench), dent (tooth)," etc. The word SANS is pronounced exactly like the last word in this list, SANG, whose G is also silent.

3. Click on the cherries at the start of the line. An audio file will open, and you will hear each word in the list in succession. Replay the file as many times as you need to get the nasal 'an' sound. (Of course, your speakers must be on.)

4. For the second word, RIVAL, scroll back up to the top of the page and click on Consonants 1. The first one will be R. Again, listen to the sentence repeatedly. You'll catch the 'ri' sound twice (in SOURIS and RIRE).

5. The 'val' sound is not difficult, it's just v + al (as in 'alone'). If you want to hear a few French words with the 'al' sound, click on Vowels 3 a the top of the Web page, and listen to the first sentence, "Il alla en Alabama..."
