Where is the best place to go for an spanish immersion program? Consider price and cultural experience.? |
Travel Info I am a middle aged male who wants to learn spanish with my 23 year old daughter. We would like to spend a month or two in a situation where we are totally immersed in Spanish. I have heard of such places in Guatemala, Mexico and Costa Rico. Looking for some feedback by people who have done it. thanks. Travel Tips You should also consider Santa Cruz, Bolivia. There are a couple places where you can get classes. They are very friendly with foreigners and is very cheap. A very nice 2 rooms apartment runs for $200-250/month. Food and transportantion are very good and cheap too. Taxi to anywhere in tow $1-1.5 Others Guatemala is a very good choice. Mayan ruins. Indigenous culture. Colorful friendly people. You'd have to be the judge of your daughter's maturity for a trip like that. Antigua is a very nice city, lots of character, but definitely on the tourist track, so lots of gringos speaking English. You can just find school once you get there. No need to sign up in advance. Perhaps a good place to start to get adjusted, then venture out from there. I also went to a small town called San Andreas in the El Petin jungle region. Away from the tourists. Teachers are hit-or-miss. Noisy chickens. Xela is supposed to be nice in the highlands. Didn't make it there though. You should consider Bogota, Colombia. I did it there for 4 months, and didnt want to come back. Forget the news, they have the Best Spanish in Colombia than any other latin american country, and it was safe fun. Prices are very comfortable, 1usd is like having 2usd in Colombia, is like everything is half price there. |
