What do I need if I want to study overseas (beyond the US) besides a passport?

Travel Info
I'm not currently enrolled in college, well, one class here in the US. But, I'd like to take a portion of my savings and go somewhere overseas, preferably somewhere where English is the main spoken language and apply for a college there. Britain perhaps. What would I need to go there to live and study, besides money? I'm totally dependent on my family and friends for everything...very insecure. I'm like a leech. I realized I need to get the hell away, far far away, from everyone I know (even though I love them to death) so I can learn how to fend for myself and become more independent. I'm 26 for Godsakes.

Travel Tips
You need a student visa, which you cannot get without applying to a university abroad and being accepted. So you have to decide where you want to study (Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or any other Commonwealth Country - use to be an English colony), and go through the application process. Once you are accepted, you will have to prove that you have no criminal record (FBI fingerprint & criminal background check), prove that you have enough funds to support you throughout your term of study without working there, and show proof of medical insurance coverage during the time you are abroad. Many countries will also require you to have proof of return ticket prior to allowing you to enter their country. Once you decide where you want to study, you should go to their embassy's website and there you will find all the info you need, including all necessary forms.
