What happened to Pearl Harbour after the war and what is it called today and how does it look?Still a harbour? |
Travel Info After the Japanese fighter plains bombed Pearl Harbour, did the Americans rebuild the harbour, or is a lot of wreckage still sunken in the harbour and harbour area. Was the island re-developed and is it still a US Navy Shipyard? Is there any visible signs of the destruction caused by the Japanese on that historic event and if so, can tourists visit the island to view some of the perhaps, remains of the attack, e.g. scuba diving the shipwrecks? Where can I obtain video footage of Pearl Harbour shortly after being destroyed as well as video footage of the island currently? Travel Tips Pearl Harbor is about half an hours' drive north west of Honolulu on Oahu -- just minutes from the airport. There is no evidence of destruction on the surface. You have to go to the memorial to see films and details of the attack. It is a popular attraction. Honolulu spreads out and Pearl City is growing larger by the minute thanks to a housing boom. So much open land in Hawaii with spectacular views. There are many military bases there as well. Check out Wikipedia for more information and do a Yahool Search. Better still, go visit. Others http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/pearl_harbo... http://plasma.nationalgeographic.com/pea... The Arizona Memorial is built on top of the sunken USS Arizona which is still a comissioned vessel. They have a musem on Ford Island. It is beautiful there and is a navy base. I had my last reenlistment in the navy onboard the arizona memorial. |
