I do not subscribe to any religion, I just profess my faith. Faith is the knowledge that there is more than just this life, or the knowledge that the soul, or spirit, is the basis of intelligence and has learned before being placed into this body, or cocoon, and will continue the learning process once it leaves the body. No one on earth has taught me this, yet I have total peace with this explanation. I was raised Christian, and would like to believe those values I was taught, but according to the explanations I have received, there is much more to the whole picture than we can understand at this point in our long term learning process. I know I sound insane, but I assure you, I am totally sane. Others be careful don't get drawn into a cult... What is there that we can't come to understand and how would you know? Travel to the stars is just exciting and its own reward. I "think" I understand your question so here goes,,,,, There is a drive deep within our DNA as humans to reach out and explore our world and universe both intellectually and physical. Not to mention if population growth remains constant,, we will outgrow our food supply on this planet in less than 100 years, it is imperative to our survival to get off this rock and stretch out into the solar system,,and eventually galaxy. As far as realizing all the things in the universe we cannot begin to fathom,, trying to do that is our very reason for continuing to exist at all. I'm not sure I completely understand your question; however, I believe you are thinking that space travel is a waste of time? Life is a journey- when you get there, it is over. If you just exist, you are not living. Many of the things we have today were byproducts of the space-race...things that would never have been discovered if we had not 'reached for the stars'. We may never get to the stars, but in trying we have bettered our lives. Just as well you can't afford scientology... Sorry didnt' answer the question, just a friendly warning... It is good you cannot afford scientology. There are tons of things you can learn on your own without clouding your brain with brainwashing from a cult. Are you in the united states? Go to your public library. Get a library card. Ask the librarian to help you find a simple book on philosophy, space, psychology, biology and others. Read some classics. Brave New World, Orwells 1984 and come back on here and ask people for other classics to read. These books will get you thinking. Ask for books on history. History has a way of repeating itself. Ask for books on world war II and the great depression. Read on the net about current events. Watch CNN and try looking at all different sites on the net for differing views on the current events. People have different views right now. You can look into taking basic adult classes one at a time at a community college in your town. Sometimes they are not expensive or you can get financial assistance. Do not go for the regular university or anything they advertize on TV those places are very expensive. Take classes on Ethics and just get your mind going. Look at Physics. If you do not want to just get a look at a high school or college course list and read all the types of books in the subjects they have. You should be able to read papers from around the place. If you can talk to people from different countries, cultures, religions. Try to just get to know them and be open to them. You can learn a great deal from where you live. I you cannot meet people read about different places and watch films. Also watch as many documentaries on anything you can. About different people or places or situations. You can get everything you need without spending a ton of money. Just use public televion you know the one without the comercials, the library, the internet. You can look for free classes at universities. Free lectures at universities and through city programs. Look in your paper. You can also find that at your public library. |
