What is the best time to visit Scotland to do some walking in the highlands? |
Travel Info and any really good places to go? Travel Tips I've done walks in Scotland throughout the year - never the Highlands though. It all depends on how experienced a walker you are, and what you want from a walk - I'm more the 'head up Ben Lomond with a picnic in my rugsack' kind of girl... There's moderate walks exploring the Lochs, and real hill walking, which can be a bit too 'adventurous' for some once the weather becomes less agreeable. And yes, it does rain a lot in Scotland... I'd start here, for walks in the Northern Highlands: http://walking.visitscotland.com/walks/n... and here for Western Highlands: http://walking.visitscotland.com/walks/w... This site has a couple of walking links: http://www.visithighlands.com/seeanddo/a... Above all, once you're there check the weather forecast as even in summer, it can change suddenly. Have a wonderful stay! Source(s): http://walking.visitscotland.com/... http://www.bestwalks.com/highlandsbooks.... Other Travel Tips Late summer is probably best. Check out the tourism pages, and possibly start e-mailing a hotel/ B&B you find interesting to hear their reccomendations. This site looked pretty good to start with. http://www.aboutscotland.com/ |
