Are all the trains in the UK run by British Rail? |
Travel Info I keep seeing National Rail and then other train companies. Who is the company now that i need to buy tickets from? Travel Tips No. The railways were denationalised by Mrs Thatchers government. Now the rail system structure is owned by National Rail and private companies bid to run services on them. You buy the ticket from the company that runs the route you want, bust basically that means you go to the ticket office at your starting station and buy a ticket to your destination. Others What was British Rail was actually privatised by John Major's conservative Government in the early 90's. The Track and infrastrure was franchised out wholly to one large company railtrack which caused huge disorray hence the government recently took back control. The train services were divided into several different regionalised franchises. these still exist today and most offer poor service and no value for money. the cost of tickets has risen substancially to fill the greedy pockets of shareholders at the expense punctual trains and good service. If you have to travel by train do it as far in advance as possible to get the best deal. the best site to use would be www.thetrainline.com Modified 1 year ago |
