this is the recently changed way of using credit and debit cards as a method of payment. Its supposed to be safer and helps keep fraud to a minimum.

Instead of swiping a magnetic strip and signing a sip, the card is read using an electronic chip built into the card.

the customer then simply types in their secret 4 digit PIN number to clarify their identity (just the same as typing your pin to get cash from an ATM.

from february 14th chip and pin cards are supposed to be the only card allowed though many stores and card suplliers are still behind with the technology.

it maybe several months or even years before all problems are ironed out.
