What is the cooking quality in England? |
Travel Info what is the quality of food in England? Travel Tips One of the great things about England is the diversity of cuisine on offer. In most cities there is a staggering amount of choice including Indian, Bangladesh, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, French etc. Bigger cities like London, Birmingham and Manchester have the greatest diversity as you would expect. I think England takes some beating especially if you like curry :) English food itself is about fresh local produce, usually cooked in a simple way. Good quality meat and organic vegetables are available from specialist butchers and markets. If you want a good place to shop for food in London I recommend Borough Market near London Bridge. Ultimately like any destination - do your restaurant research before you arrive on restaurants. There are lots of good restaurant review sites - especially in London. One book I'd recommend if you're buying ingredients is Rick Stein's Food Heroes. Based on a BBC TV show in which a famous chef travelled the country in search of small producers of the finest British food stuffs. Source(s): http://www.rickstein.com/rickstein_foodh... http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/tv_and_radio/f... http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/... Other Travel Tips For some reason English food has a reputation as being dull, or uninspired. I did not find that to be the case. All the food I had when I was there, at peoples' homes, and at restaurants, was well-prepared, and very good. We ate at the local fish and chips, little bistros or cafes, and a couple "good" restaurants, and pubs, and of course at peoples' homes. I would recommend English food to anyone. Modified 1 year ago Now I'm not saying you'll encounter culinary miracles everywhere, but overall the food isn't as bad as made out. They understand about vegetables these days, and not deep-frying or boiling everything ;-) Have a look at books by Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Delia Smith - they're the main cooking authors, and people actually seem to use their recipes. And sandwiches, scones, oatcakes, cheddar, stilton, Yorkshire Pudding, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Shepherds Pie, are all worth discovering.... Modified 1 year ago It's way better than most American cooking in my opinion. Now that I am back in the States I really miss curry and fish and chips the most I think. Everything tastes soooo good over there. Although when I lived in the UK the food I missed most was Taco Bell believe it or not. I missed mexican food and there is absolutely none to be found! trust me I looked! |
