What happens if you buy a round-trip plane ticket, travel to the destination, and don't use the return? |
Travel Info I'll be moving to the UK soon, and I'm worried about the small possibility of being turned back by an entry clearance officer. I believe it should not be a problem, but I would hate to be stuck at Gatwick and not allowed to proceed to my new job or go home! Travel Tips You're getting fractions of an accurate answer here. If you call the airline (or, better yet, have your travel agent call if you used one) AFTER you land and determine if you are allowed to stay in the country, you can tell them your plans have changed and you no longer need the return trip. Depending on what airline you are travelling on and what type of ticket you purchased, you either get a full refund, refund less a processing fee, or a credit good for one year (usually with a ticket change fee when you schedule the use of that ticket.) If you don't show up for the return flight and DON'T call them, you almost definately forfeit the ticket and the money you paid for it. The only exception is that if you are a a member of the airline's frequent flyer club; sometimes they offer a courtesy no-show refund or something like that. Others you are stuck there if you dont return when it says on the ticket or you have to buy another ticket The return ticket is canceled when you don't show up to take the second flight. That's all I know. The offleg of the ticket is like a regular one way ticket. You get credit with the airline towards another airfare. nothing, if you get caught you will have problems but you can fix them at the emmbassy nothing...you would just lose the return fare...unless of course UK customs/immigration stamped your passport with an "exit by" date basicaly you just get screwed for the ammount of money you paid for returning. |
