What cities are the best to visit while traveling in England?

Travel Info
Looking for non-touristy area that are rich with culture. I am from the US, 34, single male. Huge cities are not a must. Thanks!!

Travel Tips
Yeah I have to agree that St Michaels Mount is very beautiful as is the rest of Cornwall but it is usually quite busy with tourists when in season. It all depends when you want to travle? Here are some of my suggestions:

Bath - historical town with beautiful architechture
Manchester - Full of tourists but plenty of museums and sights
York - Englands original capital, steeped in history
Nottingham - Sherwood Forest (need i say more)
Wales - is also quite beautiful with plenty of old castles and full of history
The Lake District (Cumbria) - Beautiful Scenery

Again it all depends on what time of the year you want to visit and what kind of things your into? (history, arcitecture, art?). Please dont be afraid to send me a message if you would like any more info. I was born in Manchester but I have travled the lenght and breadth of my country! Source(s): Happy travling!

St. Michael's Mount near Land's End is a must. The south of England is beautiful country.
Cambridge and Colchester, beautiful cities with lots of history, should also go to some small towns like Saffron Walden, Finghingfield, Thaxted etc.
Edinburgh, Shakespeares home (Stratford) and York are some that spring to mind. Both Devon and Cornwall are outstandingly beautiful but get very full of tourists in the summer, and I wouldn't bother with Lands End. Pembrokeshire in Wales is gorgeous too. You could climb up Snowdonia, and maybe pop over to Ireland. The west coast of Scotland is beautiful.
The Lake District in Cumbria is so beautiful. It all pretty lakes and hills and small mountains (small enough to easily climb up and back down in a day, with out heavy equipment). and most of these lakes are next to quaint little old fashioned towns with stone cottages and cobbled roads, farms and old fashioned english people. I am from there origionally and I left to live in a bigger city but my family still live there and I love to visit to get away from the city noise.
