When is the best time to visit? When and what are 'the games'? Where is one place you should not miss?

Travel Tips
Best times to visit if you want to go to "the games" is August for the Braemar Games (not far from Balmoral).
There are all sorts of events there - caber tossing, hammer throwing, bagpiping, highland dancing etc.
You must not miss a visit to Dunnottar Castle beside Stonehaven/Aberdeen or do the "Whiskly trail" - which takes you on a tour od distilleries etc. The falconry centre near Huntly, Aberdeenshire is good too - displays with falcons etc.
Also Edinburgh Castle has to be seen.

Try this link http://www.visitscotland.com/ I take it you mean the Highland Games? If so try http://www.albagames.co.uk for more information as they are held all over the country at different times if the year.
Visit during the festival - think it starts around 8th August this year. Need to book hotels well in advance and visit the edinburgh festival and festival fringe websites for info about the thousands of shows. Buy advance tickets if you can. Fantastic fireworks at end of festival!! Also visit Mary Kings Close (haunted vaults under city), do a Witchery tour, have a bellini in Harvey Nichols 5th floor bar, Brittania (queens ship), Edinburgh Castle. Also visit Falkirk Wheel (between Glasgow & Edinburgh) - it is a revolving barge lift and is very weird!

The best time to visit is between May and August.

The games are the Highland Games which normally take place in most towns in the Highlands during the summer months.

You shouldn't miss Edinburgh, especially during the Edinburgh Festival in August.
