If I get a visa that expires in 2017 but my passport expires in 2011, will my visa transfer to my new passport |
Travel Info I have a US Passport that expires in 2011. When it expires I will obviously renew it for another 10 years. I will be traveling to India for many years to come. Therefore, when I apply for an Indian Visa this year, I want to choose the 10 year visa option. My question is this: will my Visa become invalidated when my passport expires? (because the visa itself is a piece of paper that is attached to a page inside my current passport) Or will my Visa transfer over to my new passport in 2011 and still be good for the remaining five years? Will I be able to physically move the visa page from my current passport and place it in my new passport? Will the Indian embassy even grant me a visa that exceeds my passport expiration date? Or will they automatically make my visa expire the same day as my passport? Travel Tips It will get transfered and will still be good, this is what happen with my US visa anyway when I got a new passport, but you can always call your embassy or consulate to be sure |
